Foundation Educational Trust University Institute of Professional Studies (FETUIPS) is the brainchild of the Director/Promoter of Foundation Educational Trust Complex (FETCOM) in Mutengene.
Many residents of Mutengene can remember that FETCOM started as a Nursery School and later became the fastest-growing lay private Secondary School in town.
Today, the FETCOM Complex has several nurseries, primary schools, and Secondary and also High schools. This in many ways attests to the commitment of the Promoter Mr. Mbigha Samuel in contributing to the human capital development of the youths of Mutengene.
It should be remembered that in 2021 during a Parent Teachers Association (PTA) meeting, a group of parents approached the Director and plead with him that they wanted him to assist Mutengene by opening a Higher Institute or a University in the town. These parents explained that many of their children are facing challenges in accessing professional and university studies in Buea post-high school.
These challenges are due to the rising costs of living (high rents, fees, feeding, and transport). After listening to their plight the Director as a community builder and social entrepreneur decided to create the Advancement Board led by a renowned educationist in the region Dr. Njouney Emmanuel to do feasibility studies on its plausibility.
Six months later the Board found that the idea of the Higher Institute of Professional Studies in Mutengene was a noble one. The team swung into action and sought for ministerial approval to create and open a higher institution of professional studies in Mutengene.
This dream saw the light of day on the 24th August 2021 when the Minister of Higher Education signed Authorization No 21-05402/L/MINESUP/SG/DDES/ESUP/SDA/MF, authorizing Foundation Education Trust University Institute of Professional Studies (FETUIPS) Mutengene to open her doors to admit students in to the various professional Fields.
Thus the first Higher Institution was born in the town of Mutengene. Despite its recognition in 2021, the institution only opened its doors in September 2022. Many of these parents are excited today about its birth.
